Ready to join the Space Race?
Since man first landed on the moon, space exploration and space-borne technology have become of critical importance to humanity.
The International Space Station has promoted not only scientifc discovery but also international unity, involving the space agencies of the United States, Russia, Europe, Japan, and Canada. Voyager 1 and 2 spacecrafts are exploring where nothing from Earth has flown before, entering interstellar space in 2012. And at the time of writing, Cassini is making its final descent towards Saturn, changing the face of future planetary exploration.
While space exploration has traditionally been the domain of governments, with its monetisation belonging to mega businesses, two inspiring start-ups are now changing the narrative.
On October 24, the BCCJ is very pleased to present members and guests with the opportunity to hear directly from Japanese firms disrupting the space-tech industry. Offering micro-satellites that weigh less than 100kg, and cutting the costs of space utilisation by up to 99%, these start-ups are providing new and exciting ways to explore the planet, allowing private enterprises and intrepid individuals to 'join the space race'.
What could this mean for your business? Come along and find out . . .
About the start-ups:
Originally a spinout from the University of Tokyo, Axelspace is a leading Japanese microsatellite venture starting operation of a series of microsatellites on Low Earth Orbit in 2018. Available quickly and at a fraction of the cost of traditional satellites, Axelspace products are disrupting space exploration, potentially helping you meet your specific business needs from an orbital vantage point. Axelspace will share how their firm's satellite imagery technology is set to revolutionize multiple industries from precision agriculture to automotive and logistics.

A Japanese space micro-robotics and lunar exploration venture, ispace is one of only five companies worldwide competing to reach the Moon by 2018 in the Google Lunar X Prize, as 'Team Hakuto'. With broad support from a range of sponsors including KDDI (official partner), ispace will share their plans for winning the Lunar race and for kickstarting the exploration of our closest planetary neighbour the Moon.

Did you know?
Over the past two decades the space sector has become greatly important for the UK economy. Worth almost 12 billion pounds per year, directly supporting 37,000 jobs, the sector is now so much more that building rockets and sending astronauts into space. Satellite imaging and robotics underpin many of our daily functions including broadband, mobile phones and sat navs. And technological advancement in the space sector can have a real impact on how companies can do business in the 21st century.
