What do Women Want from the BCCJ?
Many organisations, including the BCCJ, are committed to embracing diversity and inclusion (D&I) in their policies and practices, but despite striving for gender equality and determined efforts to secure diverse teams and clients, companies sometimes struggle to achieve their goal.
There are many reasons for this; differing levels of D&I maturity, no structured diversity initiatives or affirmative action policies, minimum active outreach, and a lack of substantive feedback from minority candidates. It is all too easy to make excuses. Diversity statements and commitments mean nothing without concrete steps from organisations.
The BCCJ is therefore taking more aggressive strides! We would like to see a better balance of women attending events and are therefore reaching out to female members to attend an informal brainstorming session at the BCCJ office to exchange ideas, suggest possible solutions, and set priorities.
Why do fewer women attend BCCJ events than men? Are events addressing a diverse enough range of subjects? Which events are female professionals interested in? Should a gender quota be set for BCCJ panel discussions?
We encourage you to join this hands-on discussion in order to determine a clear strategy which will be followed through by the BCCJ and incorporated into event planning and implementation to ensure more women participate in future BCCJ events.
