Olympic Party Success
July 20, 2012
On July 19 2012, the BCCJ welcomed over 200 guests from the UK and Japan's business and cultural communities, to celebrate the upcoming London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
The event, held in the ballroom and the outside terrace of the Conrad Tokyo, was organised in association with the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) and sponsored by Links of London, brand of BCCJ member company Folli Follie and official jeweller of the Games.
The Conrad team offered up a hearty British menu (complete with Yorkshire puddings!), handmade Union Jack chocolates, and a UK light display on the hotel's terrace. Event sponsors Links of London very generously gave all (214) guests a "Team GB" bracelet, which was specially commissioned for 2012 British Olympians. And the winners of the BCCJ Olympic Games, which ran throughout the evening - Team GB and Team Japan were represented by members of respective chambers - could enjoy a diverse array of prizes donated from BCCJ and TCCI member companies, including VIP tickets to see FC Tokyo, customised Adidas shoe creation vouchers, and afternoon tea for two at the Conrad.
BCCJ Executive Director, Lori Henderson, who opened the proceedings, said: "2012 will be the third time for London to host the Olympic Games, and thus the city will become the very first to host the Games three times (in 1908, 1948, and 2012). As if that isn’t special enough, what makes this year particularly pleasing is that this will be the first time that team Japan has participated in a London Olympics.
"I’m sure I can speak on behalf of the BCCJ, and the greater UK community in Japan when I say that we are genuinely excited to share the adrenaline of this special occasion with you all".
She added: "This year, the UK is hosting the Olympics, Paralympics, the UK’s GREAT campaign, the Diamond Jubilee and the World Shakespeare festival. These events are set to further strengthen the excellent commercial, cultural and diplomatic ties that already exist between our two countries - the UK and Japan."
