Leadership & Innovation in Business Transformation (Rio Tinto)

The British Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BCCJ) is very pleased to have collaborated on a joint event organised by The Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (ANZCCJ), in conjunction with the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ), Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (CCCJ), and South African Chamber of Commerce in Japan (SACCJ).

On November 18, Sam Walsh AO - Chief Executive of Rio Tinto Group,  addressed the above Chambers on: the importance of innovative leadership and being a leader in innovation;  collaborating with countries such as Japan; transforming the Rio Tinto business; and driving greater international competitiveness in a volatile global environment.

Speaker: Sam Walsh AO, Chief Executive, Rio Tinto Group

Mr Walsh, an Australian citizen, joined Rio Tinto in 1991, following 20 years in the automotive industry at General Motors and Nissan Australia. He has held a number of management positions during his career at Rio Tinto including chief executive of the Aluminium group from 2001 to 2004, chief executive of the Iron Ore group from 2004 to 2009 and chief executive Iron Ore and Australia from 2009 to January 2013. Sam is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Academy of Technical Science and Engineering. In June 2010, he was appointed an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
