BCCJ members visit Tokyo 2020 sites
Nov. 26, 2014
BCCJ members joined trade mission delegates from the UK on a tour of 2020 Olympic & Paralympic venues.
The tour included the site of the planned new stadium in Yoyogi, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies as well as athletics, football and rugby; Ariake, which will be home to the Velodrome, gymnastics centre and tennis park; and the Olympics Aquatic Centre which will be constructed close to Yumenoshima.
Members also visited the site of the proposed press and media centre close to Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba, which is itself set to host wrestling, fencing and taekwondo.
Out of the 33 competition venues in Tokyo 28 are within 5 miles of the Olympic Village, which will be based around Harumi Pier on Tokyo Bay. While most venues currently exisit, 11 new venues are to be constructed over the next five years.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will run from Friday July 24th to Sunday 9th August 2020, and the Paralympic Games will be staged between Tuesday 25th August and Sunday 6th September.
