Dec. 11, 2014

The seventh British Business Awards were held on 14th November, 2014 at the Hilton Tokyo. KDDI Corporation and TELEHOUSE International Corporation of Europe were awarded UK-Partnership.

The UK's most important internet hub is managed by the partnership between KDDI Corpotation and TELEHOUSE International Corporation of Europe. A vast majority of the UK's internet traffic is routed through the data center at East India Docklands, playing a critical role in the national online infrastructure.

The relationship begain in 1989 when KDDI built Telehouse North so that large Japanese banks and major institutions could host mainframe computers. Today the site is a critical part of the UK's IT infrastructure, and two years ago it hosted the Olympics Broadcasting Service which connected the world's media to London 2012. In 2014 the company was awarded the last available land at the site to allow the data centres, which serve international banks and global companies, to be expanded.

An 135m GBP investment will see Telehouse North 2 built at the most network rich and low-latency site in Europe, meaning the site will become a strong contender as a location for European headquarters.

Judges also noted that KDDI has supported Japanese IT and cloud firms with entry into the Japanese market via Telehouse infrastructure.
