2018 BBA Nominees: UK-Japan partnership
Asteria & This Place
The partnership between Asteria and This Place demonstrates not only how UK and Japanese companies can benefit from skills and knowledge exchange, but also how such a relationship can unlock unparalleled growth. This partnership has allowed both companies to dramatically improve customers’ digital experiences and bring new digital products to market in Japan and the UK. The partnership also enabled This Place to become the first digital design-led studio to ascend to the top tier of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
DIAGEO & Kirin
Diageo, the world’s leading global premium drinks business, operates its Japan business through two powerful and complimentary joint venture partnerships with Kirin and Moet Hennessy. Over the past year Diageo has leveraged these partnerships to deliver break-out growth of its Scotch portfolio, led by Johnnie Walker. This has contributed to increased export growth for the UK and increased exposure of Scotland in Japan through brand experiences such as distillery tours.
Japan House London & Partners
Japan House London opened on Kensington High Street on 22 June 2018 and has quickly established itself as the new cultural home of Japan in London. A key objective is to build lasting partnerships between Japan and the UK; the development of a Corporate Members scheme - which has attracted 34 member companies, 32 of which are from Japan's private sector - has proved instrumental in meeting this objective.
Moixa Energy Holdings & ITOCHU Corporation
Moixa and ITOCHU have formed a partnership to bring Moixa's innovative GridShare service to ITOCHU customers in Japan. GridShare uses machine learning to optimise the value that households get from SmartStar batteries which ITOCHU have rolled out to the Japanese market. In only six months, Moixa has integrated with an IoT hardware platform and onboarded more than 3300 systems.
To recognise Nihon Cyber Defence KK and Nihon Cyber Defence Ltd. for strengthening UK-Japan ties in the area of cyber security. Through the provision of consultancy and training from the UK's world-leading industry experts this partnership enhances Japan's cyber capabilities, particularly in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.
Rhino Japan & ITOCHU Corporation
This nomination is made primarily to recognise the success of Rhino Rugby, with the support of its long-term partner Itochu, in winning a significant supply contract for a major international sporting event to be held in Japan in 2019.
Standard Chartered & UK Export Finance
On the back of inter-governmental cooperation between the UK and Japanese governments, Standard Chartered Bank Tokyo Branch, in collaboration with UK Export Finance, has established a unique UK ECA (Export Credit Agency) program for its Japanese clients. This is aimed at furthering business collaboration between the UK and Japan in developing countries.
The decision on a winning 2018 BBA entry is the result of the combined score of 6 separate judges, who independently score each submission using the same scoring matrix.
To ensure transparency, each judge independently returns his or her score sheet to the BCCJ office by 1 November 2018 and the results are tabulated confidentially. The scores from each judge are then totaled for each nominee, and the nomination with the highest accumulative score is declared the category winner.
In the event of two nominees receiving the same final score, all judges will be asked to review their scores for these companies / individuals, and the submission with the highest score from this second round of judging will be declared the winner.
The final results remain confidential until the BBA ceremony - held on the evening of November 2 2018 at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo.
Good luck to all 2018 BBA nominees, and stay tuned for updates on other award categories! www.bccjapan.com
